For a long time now, I’ve preferred the term ‘geospatial’ to describe our industry, compared to other terms such as GIS or LBS. I’ve always felt that Geospatial does a better job of describing the whole industry, which includes things such as GIS, remote sensing and data analytics (etc).

But I think there is a growing separation between the more traditional world of GIS (focusing on map data/visualisation) and Geospatial (which would seem to be both an evolution of remote sensing but also a deeper focus on data analytics)...

Mobile Mapping - all data is equal, right? Some further thoughts on Mobile Mapping data types and their applications.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this - do you have any more use-cases you'd like me to attempt to map? Do you agree or disagree with my thoughts?

I attended the very well organised NUAR Discovery Day yesterday in London. Like others, I was championing the need for fibre/comms data to be added and made available for strategic planning/design. Better strategic planning, with high-quality designs that enable efficient fibre installations, is a key focus of Quantigp.

I've put down some of the thoughts and a summary of the themes that were discussed yesterday. Nothing ground-breaking (pun intended) but at least a view of where my head is at with regards to NUAR at the moment.

Mobile Mapping data is woefully underused in the UK.

I believe that good quality Mobile Mapping data could be used much more effectively in the UK - perhaps requiring a "top down" direction of how Mobile Mapping data could be standardised for use in national infrastructure projects.

(I've used the Google Street View car here mostly, I admit, to arouse interest - Street View is used for a lot more than just peeking at other people's houses).
